Fiji Military Land Force commander Pita Ditri wants people in Fiji to not interfere with the rule of law, and if anyone was caught interfering, they would be severely punished.
Ditri said the eight men convicted last Friday of planning to kill the Prime Minister had individual political ideologies, contrary to that of the Military.
“Most of them misunderstood lawful commands way back in 2000 and they were punished for it,” Ditri said.
Ditri said members of the Military Counter Revolution Warfare unit that were in the group were gullible and easily swayed by ambitious politicians who lost in the 2000 general elections.
“This group of men had wronged their loyalty to higher command in 2000 and they have again wronged, but this time with misdirected loyalty,” Ditri said.
He added the renegade soldiers had not shown any remorse for their past actions, referring to the attempted mutiny at the Military Headquarters in Nabua in November 2000.
