The Fiji Independent Commission Against Corruption has asked the High Court to set a July trial date in FICAC’s case against former Fiji National Provident Fund chief executive officer Olota Rokovunisei and deputy Foana Nemani.
FICAC prosecutor Vinsent Perera told the court he wanted to set a date for trial in the later part of July and to have the case mentioned prior to that in order to finalise the agreed facts with Rokovunisei.
Rokovunisei’s lawyer Kafoa Muaror informed Justice Priyantha Fernando that he had received the disclosures and wanted to make sure that he received all the disclosures which were earlier requested from FICAC.
Muaror also applied to have Rokovunisei’s bail conditions varied.
He said his client is in the process of completing a doctorate from the University of Sunshine Coast and that he was seeking the liberty of his client to travel back and forth to have consultations with his professor.
Justice Fernando said Muaror should make a formal application by way of filing relevant documents for the court to sight.
Muaror said he would be making a formal application at a later date.
Rokovunisei and Foana Nemani face charges of extortion by public officers and abuse of office. Nemani had informed the court previously that she would not be able to appear in court until July as she will be overseas for medical treatment.
The matter has been adjourned to July 12 for mention.
