The Fiji government has rented out 10 of its quarters in the capital Suva at market rates and expects to rake in $200,000 annually in rental income.
Public Service Commission permanent secretary Parmesh Chand said
Suva has a total of 200 government quarters within the Muanikau and Domain area.
Chand said apart from the 10 already on rent, another 10 quarters had been identified for renovation and work on them would begin soon.
He said tenants were attracted to the centrality of the government quarters around Suva.
The quarters were previously rented out at $134 per month generating only $17,400 per annum.
Chand said the new rental prices ranged from $1000-$2500 depending on the quarters grade and is estimated to generate returns of around $200,000 per annum.
