Thirty five percent of Fiji’s student population is now benefiting from the government’s subsidy scheme for student bus fares, the Ministry of Education has revealed.
The ministry said the number of schools qualifying for the scheme has reached 574.
“A few more schools are expected to be part of this exercise,” the ministry said.
Submissions are still being received from schools and some parents.
Meanwhile, the ministry said 10 schools in the Central/Eastern divisions were closed yesterday as a result of flash floods in the region this week.
It would only say that there was a “concerted effort” from everyone involved for classes to resume at the schools “in the not too distant future”.
