Students from three secondary schools in the central/eastern division have been reminded that education alone would end poverty.
Education Minister Filipe Bole made the comment as he visited Nakasi High, Rewa Secondary, and Pt Shreedhar Maharaj College, beginning his tour of schools this year.
He reminded students the importance of education and why Government is investing in this sector.
Government will soon ensure that as from 2010, children are to remain in school for 12 years.
The policy he said, is strengthened by the abolition of examinations such as Fiji Intermediate Examination, Fiji Eight Year Examination, and the Fiji Junior Certificate.
According to Bole, the idea would eradicate school dropout problems.
He said while Government is assisting parents by bearing some of the education costs in textbooks, bus fares and tuition fees, parents need to ensure that children are well fed, properly dressed and encouraged to pursue their education.
It has been confirmed that this year will be the final year for the Fiji Junior Certificate Examination.
