Former Local Government Minister Jone Navakamocea appeared in court today after being accused of drinking and driving.
Navakamocea faces one count of dangerous driving and another count of driving under the influence of liquor.
Police allege that on February 27, this year, Navakamocea drove a vehicle registration number EQ.857 at Ratu Mara Rd in a dangerous manner while being under 160.0 micrograms of alcohol.
The Legal Aid Commission’s Elenoa Raitamata asked the court that his plea be deferred and that he be bailed.
He was released on a $500 bail and the case will be recalled on March 24.
Navakamocea was formerly a State Minister for National Planning in the ousted government of Laisenia Qarase.
He then became Local Government and Urban Development minister in the Cabinet formed by Prime Minister Commodore Voreqe Bainimarama following the December 5, 2006 takeover.
