A category one tropical cyclone is confirmed to be forming south of the Cook Islands.
Director of Fiji Meteorological Services, Rajendra Prasad has confirmed the cyclone does not pose any direct threat to Fiji.
He however adds that Southern Cooks will experience strong to marginal gale force winds with very rough seas and heavy rainfall.
“With the slow-moving nature of the cyclone, it is difficult to predict its future movement,” Prasad said.
“TC SARAH might weaken in the next six hours but we cannot be too sure.”
Given its projected path, TC Sarah poses a direct threat to Palmerston Island in the Southern Cooks.
According to the Met Department, TC Sarah is the sixth cyclone to occur in the RSMC Nadi-TCC area of responsibility and the eighth to form in Southwest Pacific region.
