Sixteen villages in the province of Rewa have started receiving water in their homes after 15 years of irregular water supply.
This after emergency work was successfully carried out by the Water Authority of Fiji (WAF).
WAF chief executive Tony Fullman said even double story buildings are now getting water with normal water supply and pressure.
“The $132,000 project took a month to complete and WAF will continue with its emergency works projects,” he said.
Fullman said the project involved digging a 15 meter deep trench across the Rewa river bed and Navy divers anchoring the pipes with 50 pairs of 400 kg cement blocks.
“People living in other areas suffering from intermittent water supply can also expect to see improvements in their areas soon as emergency works are completed in their areas,” Fullman said.
The 16 villages are Nasigatoka, Derekena, Nabua, Nadoi, Vunuku, Muanaira, Muanaicake, Tavuya, Nukui, Nasali, Nukutuba, Waivou, Burebasaga, Nasilai, Vanua Levu, and Narocivo.
