Fiji’s Prime Minister Voreqe Bainimarama ended a weeklong tour of the western division yesterday calling on civil servants there to “come out of their comfort zone and serve the people”.
Bainimarama had met with indigenous landowners in Nadi, Ba, Lautoka and Rakiraki – regarded the Tourism Belt of the nation’s economy – asking them to renew land leases to the Indo-Fijian tenants to avoid the demise of the ailing sugar industry.
He said the farm tenants should not be forced to leave the country because land leases are not renewed.
He told farmers to contact him directly at his office if civil servants at government ministries and departments do not serve them diligently, particularly the Native Land Trust Board and the Ministry of Lands.
Bainimarama said the main of job civil servants is to serve the people.
