With the new school opening hours starting Monday at 9am, the Fiji Bus Operators Association say there are enough “wheels” to cater for the changes.
Association president Zane Dean told FijiLive that some bus companies have been informed to start running at 8.30 am.
“We had received complaints from schools and students about arriving late in school, so with this new timing schedule, it will be a convenient situation for everyone,” Dean said.
He also said some students had been traveling on the normal public buses to reach school in time, and they didn’t have to do it anymore.
Director of the Central Transport bus Company, Rameshwar Chandra said they will operate accordingly with the new schedule.
“We will be in a better position to decide what needs changing and how things are affected come next week when school starts an hour late,” Chandra said.
“It all depends on what the schools want, it’s their time preference.”
The Ministry of Education yesterday gave the directive for the new school times because of the discomfort placed on parents and students brought about by the extended daylight savings that will end mid-April.
