Five fake Irish passports rather than three as previously reported have been linked to the killing of a Hamas chief in Dubai, Ireland's foreign ministry said Thursday.
New information provided by Dubai authorities has linked two other forged Irish passports with the hit squad which killed Hamas commander Mahmud al-Mabhuh last month.
"These would be in addition to the initial three forged Irish passports," a ministry spokesman told AFP.
He added that Ireland had heard reports that, in addition to the 11 names already identified, there may be up to eight others. "So these (two extra Irish documents) would be part, we are assuming, of the eight others."
The update came hours after Interpol issued arrest notices for 11 suspects -- six listed with British passports, three Irish, one French and one German -- wanted by Dubai for the killing.
Earlier Thursday Ireland summoned Israel's ambassador to Dublin and expressed its "grave" concern about the abuse of Irish passports. Britain, Germany and France also called in Israeli diplomats over the affair.
