Tibet's exiled spiritual leader the Dalai Lama arrived Wednesday in the United States ahead of a meeting with President Barack Obama that has been condemned by China.
The 74-year-old monk arrived at Dulles International Airport near Washington and was driven under security to a downtown hotel, where he will greet Tibetans celebrating their Losar new year.
The Dalai Lama, who has lived since 1959 in exile in India, is set to meet separately Thursday with Obama and Secretary of State Hillary Clinton.
The United States has refused to cancel the trip despite warnings from China that it will undermine relations.
