The Water Authority of Fiji (WAF) is carrying out major repair works to the Waila and Tamavua water treatment plants in efforts to curb intermittent water supply to the public.
WAF Corporate Communications Officer, Joe Cava told FijiLive the machines and infrastructures at the plants were old and need replacing.
“These machines and fittings have their own use-by-date so they need to be repaired or replaced when they reach their servicing dates,” Cava said.
Works on the Waila plant have commenced and the project is expected to complete by January 2011, thanks to a loan provided by the Asian Development Bank.
Cava said normal uninterrupted water supply to the public is assured once the repair works are completed.
“However, some short disruptions may occur from time to time as the water pressure will not be strong enough to reach high areas.”
Cava said people living in high areas in Suva and Nausori should store water for their daily usage during the repair maintenance period.
He said the public will be also given prior notice of any major water disruptions during this time.
