A number of people remain missing a day after 18 people died in a horrific rush-hour train collision near Brussels, a spokeswoman for Belgium's rail network said Tuesday.
"A certain number of people, I don't know how many, have been reported missing since yesterday," Infrabel spokeswoman Fanny Charpentier told AFP.
"The toll could get worse," said the spokeswoman, adding that the search teams were still discovering body parts among the carnage.
"There are still body parts in the carriages, and there may be more," Charpentier said.
One track has been cleared following the Monday morning crash, allowing the partial resumption of rail services.
Work to free up the six lines still obstructed by the wreckage of the two trains will begin Wednesday, she added.
However that work could last for another ten days, as investigators probe the cause of one of Belgium's worst rail accidents.
"The victim identification services also have to work after the carriages are removed," she added.
