A strong 6.2-magnitude earthquake struck off Indonesia's eastern islands Tuesday but there were no immediate reports of damage and no tsunami warning was issued, officials said.
The quake struck at 6:51 am (21:51 GMT Monday) at a depth of 128 kilometres (80 miles) and 295 kilometres (183 miles) west of the Tanimbar Islands and 383 kilometres (238 miles) east of Dili, East Timor, the US Geological Survey said.
Indonesia sits on the Pacific "Ring of Fire," where the meeting of continental plates causes high volcanic and seismic activity.
A 7.6-magnitude quake that struck Sumatra island in September killed more than 1,000 people.
