Eight Fiji men are in police custody in connection with a series of robberies that began with a $15,000 cash getaway in a family car this week.
The eight were arrested from their various residences yesterday, police assistant spokesman Sergeant Suliano Tevita told FijiLive.
“Our investigations into the theft lead us to the eight who were involved in the robbery in Moti Street and the two outlets,” he said.
Masked robbers threatened a couple in Moti Street and made off in the couple’s vehicle with $15,000 cash and jewellery.
Tevita said the vehicle, carrying a fake number plate, was then used by the group two hours later to carry out a $29,000 robbery at the New World Supermarket in Narere 8 Miles.
The masked men armed with pinch bars and cane knives then entered Praveen’s Kava shop at Vivras Plaza and stole $14,000 cash, cigarettes and recharge cards.
“The stolen items have not been recovered yet,” Tevita said.
The getaway stolen vehicle was found abandoned on Tuesday at Mandir Street in Nakasi.
