It's a coffee table-cum-computer and, following its release in Australia this week, it's yours for just $21,000.
The Microsoft Surface, a touchscreen coffee table with built-in cameras, is aimed at bars, cafes, clubs, shops and offices - news.com.au reports
Able to detect 250 different finger touches at the same time, it features cameras that can identify the size, shape and even the text printed on objects placed on the tabletop.
Microsoft Australia developer Michael Kordahi said the table was designed to be used by several people at a time.
"It's not a device you would buy and stick in your lounge room, but it is something that can build a customer experience," he said.
"You can place your passport or business card on the screen and Surface would bring up your Twitter feed and Facebook page photos.
"It can also be used to order drinks at a bar or you could put a membership card down and drag content on to it, which can be accessed via the internet later."
Travel company Lonely Planet and the ANZ bank have expressed interest in developing the Surface for use in their offices and branches.
A small amount of Surface devices have been in Australia since 2008, but this is the first time Microsoft has made the technology commercially available here.
Mr Kordahi said Surface was a new type of interface and not intended to replace the PC.
"Surface doesn't use a mouse or keyboard," he said.
It is expected to appear in Australian venues within a year.
