A man accused of stalking international actress Keira Knightley has been arrested says news.com.au.

The incident happened outside a theatre where the star was performing in London, Sky News reports.

Police staked out the stage door after the Pirates Of The Caribbean star said a fan was constantly pestering her.

They arrested the 41-year-old as he waited outside the Comedy Theatre in London's West End - where Keira, 24, was appearing in The Misanthrope.

A source at the theatre said, "Keira felt threatened by this guy who turned up a number of times and tried to speak to her.

"He did not make any specific threats to her but she was concerned enough to call in the police."

The actress left the UK for America two years ago after discovering she had five stalkers.

She said at the time, "I've no way of knowing if they could be potential rapists. I'm frightened out of my wits every time I see one of them."

A Metropolitan Police spokeswoman said, "A 41-year-old man was arrested on suspicion of harassment...the arrest follows concern expressed by a woman."

Mariek Daniluk, 41, of Palmers Green, North London, was charged with harassment.

He is due to appear at City of Westminster Magistrates Court.
