Fiji’s fifth case of drowning for 2010 was recorded when an 11-year-old boy drowned in the Waidina River yesterday afternoon.
Police spokesman Sergeant Suliano Tevita said the boy was from a village in Naitasiri.
“He was swimming in the river with his friends when he got swept away by the strong currents of the river,” he said.
Tevita said the villagers were able to find the body later.
“The body is in the Suva Private Hospital awaiting post-mortem examination.”
He has urged parents to be more responsible and not allow children go to rivers and creeks without adult supervision.
