Toyota said Tuesday its US sales dropped 8.7 percent in January amid a mass safety recall which led the Japanese automaker to suspend the sale of eight of its most popular models last week.
Toyota said the sales suspension which began on January 26 impacted more than 60 percent of the Toyota Divison's inventory.
Sales at the Toyota division saw its monthly sales drop 12 percent from a year earlier to 83,279 vehicles.
Sales at the luxury Lexus division however were up 14.2 percent at 15,517.
