An early morning crash on Fiji’s Queen’s Highway has caused another road fatality.
A man in his early 30s died when the Mitsubishi Canter he was in tumbled down a cliff near Sigatoka Village, leaving the man trapped inside.
A National Fire Authority crew was able to extricate the man from the crash using a light rescue vehicle equipped with a hydraulic cutting tool.
NFA chief fire officer Tupou Saubulinayau said despite numerous warnings, motorists continued to disregard road safety advice given by the authorities.
A spokesman said it seemed speeding caused the accident, which happened at about 6 am today.
Police were not available to comment on the condition of the driver of the vehicle and its other passengers.
The fatality brings the road death toll to five compared to four for the same period last year.
