The search is on for a Fiji man who is alleged to have shoved a piece of wood into his wife’s mouth during an argument, causing her serious injuries that have left her hospitalised.
The woman was transferred from the Sigatoka Hospital to the Lautoka Hospital last week after her condition worsened from the injuries during the January 17 attack.
She was transferred to the Lautoka Hospital’s Intensive Care Unit last week.
Police West spokesman Wame Bautolu said police were trying to locate her husband, a 49-year-old labourer so they could obtain a statement from him.
There had been no statement from the wife, Bautolu said.
“She has difficulty breathing and eating and we will have to wait for her to recover before we can speak to her,” he told FijiLive.
Bautolu said any charges against her husband will depend on the wife’s statement.
“It’ll also depend on whether she will press charges,” he said.
The couple is from Yalawa, Sigatoka.
