Australians want immigration capped, according to an Australian newspaper poll.
They also believe the country is increasingly racist, according to a Sunday Mail poll by Galaxy.
Two-thirds of respondents - 66 per cent - think the Australian Government should cap immigration rates.
Of these, 72 per cent of Australians polled favour an immigration cap, while 55 per cent of those who live in Australia but do not consider themselves Australian also favoured an immigration cap.
In the past few years, polls indicated Australians were comfortable with immigration levels.
The Australian Government targets getting in around 190,000 people a year.
More than half the respondents felt Australia had changed for the worse in the past 20 years.
But the poll shows Australians are basically happy with their flag, national anthem, and with the standard of living.
Galaxy polled 1000 residents, and found that Australians rate meat pies as their favourite national dish and think Australian history lessons should be compulsory in secondary schools.
Fifty-two per cent of respondents think Australia is a racist nation, 45 per cent say hey are not and 3 per cent are undecided.
