A complex in Suva named after former Fiji Prime Minister Laisenia Qarase will be renamed because there are “immense positive implications” to the measure says the government that removed him.
The name of the Fiji National Council for Disabled Persons building at Brown Street in Suva will be changed from “Qarase House” to the “FNCDP Complex”.
Cabinet approved the change at its meeting this week.
A Cabinet statement said the change was based on a submission by Minister for Social Welfare, Women and Poverty Alleviation, Dr Jiko Luveni.
“It projects an inclusive approach to all its affiliates who are current tenants and also the vocational training arm for disabled teenagers and youths, the Fiji Vocational Technical Training Centre,” Luveni said in the statement.
She said that the name change will give more visibility to the FNCDP and the “whole disabled community in Fiji”.
