All graduates from the TISI Sangam Nursing School in Labasa will be absorbed into the health workforce, the ministry of Health has confirmed.
And government is committed to ensuring the recruitment of 50 trained nurses from the institution in the next three years.
Health Media Liaison Officer Iliesa Tora said that the Ministry had sent a proposal to Cabinet on the issue last year, which Cabinet had approved.
“That proposal was for us to have 120 trainees trained at the Fiji School of Nursing and 50 at the Sangam Nursing School,” Tora said.
“We had asked for 170 new nurses for the health workforce for the next three years and that is basically what we are doing.”
As far as the current Health Management is concerned their commitment stands at 120 nurses from the FSN and 50 from the Sangam Nursing School, Tora said.
“We would also like to assure nurses from the school that although they may not have received their posting letters or offer letters that process is underway.”
He added that plans by the new Fiji National University to include 50 private students into FSN as part of their current student intake was news to the Ministry.
“We will not comment on the issue and leave it to FNU to sort that out at this time,” Tora said.
“But as far as we are concerned right now, our commitment is 120 nurses from FSN and 50 from the Sangam Nursing School each year for the next three years.”
