The rental freeze on all residential and ground rent will be extended and will remain in force until March 31, 2010.
The Prices and Incomes Board has confirmed this saying that no one including the State shall charge rent that exceeds the rent applicable to those premises as at March 2, 2007.
Accordingly, the PIB has issued the Counter Inflation (Rent Increase Restriction on Residential and Ground Rent. No.2. Order 2009), effective from January 1, 2010.
“Rental for any premises let out for the first time are not subject to the Order but any increase after this will be subject to the restriction,” the PIB said.
Landlords have been reminded to keep records including letting agreements and receipts.
