The Fiji Electricity Authority’s work to restore power supply and bring back into street lights knocked out during Cyclone Mick is expected to be completed by the end of the month.
FEA chief executive officer Hasmukh Patel has given the timeline following concerns about criminal activity in urban areas because of street light failure.
“We’re concentrating on restoring power to all urban areas before working on restoring street lights in affected areas,” Patel told FijiLive.
“Most people want their power supply back since we’re still in the festive season. However there is not much we can do because most of the power lines and poles were damaged by the cyclone. We’re doing the best we can to have power restored all over Fiji before the end of the month.”
Patel said FEA workers will begin with street light maintenance once they’ve completed the work to restore power supply.
