Fiji’s Independent Commission Against Corruption has brought business-related charges against lawyer Imrana Jalal following a similar case against her husband Sakiusa Tuisolia.
Jalal has been charged with operating a restaurant without a proper licence and has been summoned to appear in court this Friday.
She was served with seven counts of the charge on New Year’s Day in Nadi.
“I think this is very unlawful because we’re operating with a licence,” Jalal told FijiLive.
The couple owns the Hook and Chook restaurant in Suva.
Tuisolia appeared in court last Tuesday on charges of failing to display a licence and restaurant regulations on the restaurant premises. FICAC also made an application that the hearing be preceded to high court.
Then magistrate Mary Muir, who yesterday was among three magistrates to have their contracts terminated, said that a decision on the appeal would be made after looking at the submissions.
Tuisolia’s case was adjourned to January 19.
