Fiji freight company Williams and Gosling has suffered a 100 percent loss to its main Suva warehouse as a result of today’s early morning fire, says chief executive officer Fernando Lobendahn.
Lobendahn said a risk management team is in place and IT personnel are hooking up, with the 60 warehouse staff redeployed to other warehouses around the city.
He said it was too early to say what caused the fire but records of what the warehouse contained would be retrieved from the company’s database.
Fire fighters have extinguished the fire, which apparently began just before 6am and quickly engulfed the wooden building in Walu Bay.
Lobendahn said while the cargo inside had been destroyed, what had been placed outside was alright although damaged by the heat.
