Fiji’s Disaster Management Committee (DISMAC) and the Fiji Red Cross Society say they have continued work over the holiday period to distribute relief supplies to victims of Cyclone Mick.
DISMAC acting director Pajiliai Dobui said food rations have been distributed to people who are trying to rebuild their lives.
He said there had been a strong groundswell of corporate support from local companies.
“I’m grateful to the support shown by corporate and also some non-government organisations,” Dobui told FijiLive.
“We also had some assistance from foreign donors and we’ve continued to assist those affected by the cyclone. Most of these donations were food items and these have been relayed to the affected people.”
Fiji Red Cross director Alison Cupit said relief teams made up of Red Cross volunteers and DISMAC officials continued to distribute supplies over the festive season while other teams are on stand by to monitor the situation.
“We’ve been distributing food items, cooking utensils and tarpaulins for people who lost their homes. The relief teams have been working hard and I can say that the more hands working together the easier the relief work becomes,” said Cupit.
