Fiji’s Police Drug Unit last night uprooted marijuana plants with a street value of more than $2.3 million in a raid on a farm located on the edge of Navosa and Wainimala.
While no arrests have been made in relation to the raid, police assistant spokesman Sergeant Atunaisa Sokomuri said hundred of matured marijuana plants were uprooted.
“We’ve identified some farmers who are connected to planting and selling of marijuana and we’ll continue to conduct raids in farms,” said Sokomuri.
He said the Police Drug Unit is focusing on peddlers in a bid to eradicate the drug trade in Fiji.
“We’re following people who are actually planting and selling marijuana and in doing so we’re able to reduce the supply of drugs into the city.”
He said reducing supply is the main focus of their efforts now.
