Fiji’s Western Union Money Transfer is hoping that the recent spate of robberies on their business will not jeopardize their newly formed partnership with FEXCO, a global provider of Merchant, Business and Consumer Services including Money Transfer based in Ireland.
Suva branch manager Steven Narayan said the company had lost $80,000 in just two weeks.
Thieves broke into their Laucala Beach branch a fortnight ago taking off with $60,000 and only yesterday, stole $20,000 from their Post Fiji building branch.
“We signed with new shareholders FEXCO Pacific in June and after the recent robberies cases I’m hoping that they’re not going to pull out,” Narayan told FijiLive.
Narayan has requested police assistance as the safety of the staff in all eight branches and 80 sub-branches is now their concern.
“Right now we’ll be operating in limited branches because we don’t want to take the risk of being targeted by thieves but I have lodged a request to the Police if they could be of assistance especially during this busy time.
“Our customers overseas are sending a lot of money and we have to keep a large sum of money with us to meet our local customers demand.”
FEXCO Fiji is already operating with seven branches.
Meanwhile, FEXCO Pacific is now represented in New Zealand, Samoa, Tonga and Fiji.
