Former Airports Fiji Limited chief executive officer Sakiusa Tuisolia today appeared in the Suva Magistrates Court on charges of operating a business without a proper licence.
Tuisolia who operates the Hook and Chook Restaurant on Suva’s Victoria Parade is also charged with failing to display the licence and restaurant regulation on the restaurant premises.
Magistrate Mary Muir questioned the Fiji Independent Commission Against Corruption (FICAC) of its authority to lay charges against Tuisolia as the Suva City Council was the relevant authority.
FICAC lawyer Aca Rayawa said a submission will be made in writing with explanation of their powers to take such matters to court under the authority of the Health Board recognised by the Ministry of Health.
FICAC also made an application for the hearing to proceed to the High Court.
Magistrate Muir said she will make a decision on the matter after looking at submissions.
Tuisolia’s lawyer Devanesh Sharma asked that his clients’ case be deferred so he would be in a better position to advice him on his next course of action.
The case was adjourned to January 19, 2010.
