The extension of operating hours for businesses brings Fiji in line with major tourism destination around the world.
Suva Retailers Association president Himmat Lodhia made the comment after Government ‘s recent decision on the issue.
Retailers are now allowed to operate until 9pm seven days a week while special zones in Suva and Nadi have had their licenses extended for 24 hours.
Lodhia said the extension of commercial trading hours provides shopping opportunities for everyone especially tourists.
“Shops opening for 24 hours is a trend found in most of the tourist destinations and is aimed at providing shopping opportunities for transiting tourists,” Lodhia told FijiLive.
“With Fiji adopting this (policy), we are in line with other major tourism destinations like Bali and Hawaii.
“This move has been welcomed by all the business community and I believe it benefits everyone.”
He added that the extension of trading hours would create more employment.
