Fiji’s new President Ratu Epeli Nailatikau has called on the people of Fiji to put their differences aside this Christmas and work together for the betterment of the future.
In a national televised address, Ratu Epeli said 2009 had been a testing year for everyone in which faith, tolerance and goodwill towards one another was tested.
Cyclones marked the start and end of the year he said, causing terrible havoc and loss of lives but the people of Fiji displayed courage and perservered.
He added that despite the challenges there is always a way to a better future and Fiji has always emerged stronger.
