Fiji’s tourism industry has been given a huge boost with Continental Micronesia launching direct services between Fiji and Honolulu.
The first flight from Guam arrived at Nadi Airport last Friday and left for Honolulu Saturday.
Scheduled flights now operate on Tuesdays and Saturdays to Honolulu and Wednesdays and Sundays to Guam.
Tourism Fiji chief executive officer Josefa Tuamoto told FijiLive the new flights will provide key benefits to Fiji’s tourism industry.
“This is a fantastic opportunity to link key iconic destinations not only to Guam and Honolulu but also to Australia with the arrival of the V Australia airline service.
“It will accelerate the arrival of visitors from Australia,” Tuamoto said.
Continental Airline Managing director Matt Miller said that they are pleased to include Nadi in their network.
“Fiji is a popular vacation spot that attracts visitors from around the world and we see strong demand for leisure travel to the area,” Miller said in a statement.
“This new route is part of our growth strategy, which immediately followed Continental Airlines’ recent move to Star Alliance which provided extensive network as well as competitive fares and travel packages for our customers.”
Continental Director Sales and Marketing Director David Kendell said, “I would like to thank and recognise the Fiji government, Tourism Fiji and US Embassy for their kind cooperation to make this new route possible.”
Continental Airlines is the world fifth largest airline and is celebrating its 75th anniversary this year.
