Nadi-based Island Brewing Company has launched Vonu Pure Lager, the only local handcrafted draught lager to hit the Fiji market.

Managing Director Jeremy Ullrich in a statement, said the brewery is set to capitalize on a growing international trend with the launch of its very own boutique tap beer.

According to Ullrich, the premium draught beer category is expanding globally and it made sense for his company to answer the growing demand by consumers.

“In most markets 60 to 70 percent of boutique beer sold is in draught form. Many people now appreciate that draught beer is the best quality beer as its fresh from the brewery and we are excited to be able to offer this to both Fijian locals and holidaymakers,” he said.

The new handcrafted beer is lagered for weeks to ensure the best possible quality, is free of preservatives and is brewed naturally using pure Fiji island rainwater.

Vonu Pure Lager was created by head brewer Brian Watson, an internationally recognized graduate of the United Kingdom’s prestigious Institute Of Brewing and a regular judge in international beer awards including the Beer World Cup.

Watson, who has also been awarded Gold medals in numerous categories at the International Beer Awards, says Vonu Pure Lager has a crisp, fresh taste with a medium body and mild hop aroma.

The Island Brewing Company was established by Jeremy and his brother Jonathan, Kiwis who share Fijian residency and whose family links to Nadi go back as far as the 1940s when their grandfather helped construct Nadi Airport for the military during World War II.

“Fiji will always be like a second home to me. I feel proud to have been given residency and intend to live up to this honour by doing my very best to ensure that our commercial success has a flow on effect to the rest of the community,” Ullrich said.

Since its establishment, the Island Brewing Company has created over ten jobs in Nadi and is set to inject several million dollars into the local economy.
