The driver of a bus that plunged down a hillside on Fiji’s Queen’s Road last week killing two people including a three-year-old boy, has been granted $1000 bail.
Pacific Transport Ltd driver Sumesh Chand, 41, had fled the scene of the accident in Nabou.
He was arrested and brought before the Nadi Magistrates Court on Friday on charges of dangerous driving causing death.
When he reappeared today, Chand was released on bail and ordered to report to the Valelevu Police Station outside Suva every Saturday and told not to interfere with witnesses.
“The court didn’t take any appeal from Chand because wants to seek legal advice,” said Western Division police spokesman Wame Bautolu.
His case has been adjourned to January 15.
A 43-year-old man was killed in the accident which left two other people seriously injured while another 24 people suffered cuts and fractures.
