Indian police are investigating a complaint by a Fiji student studying at India’s Central Hindi Institute that a professor harassed her and warned her of bad results if she complained to anyone.
The Bangkok-based Thaindian news portal reported a group of foreign students, including the girl, accused the faculty member of misbehaving and making sexual overtures at them in front of the newly-appointed vice chairman, poet Ashok Chakradhar, who was on his maiden visit to the institute a week ago.
The report said police had filed a case against the professor.
The Fiji student, a radio journalist, said the professor would send “vulgar messages” on her mobile. When she protested, she was threatened that her result could be affected.
Police allege the professor used to send 10 to 12 messages daily to the student.
