Fiji Electricity Authority’s chief executive officer Hasmukh Patel says extensive cyclone damage to power poles is the reason behind the delay in fully restoring power supply.
Patel told FijiLive that 25 percent of people in Fiji are still without electricity following damage caused by Cyclone Mick across most of the country early this week.
“There is still no time frame given as to when power will be restored in the affected areas but we’re working on the extensive damage to power poles and base stations so that power is restored,” Patel said.
He said it was important for the FEA to stick to their priority list.
“We have a list of places that is in our priority list like hospitals and urban centres that need power supply so we’re working on restoring their power first. Seventy five percent of areas in Fiji are now with electricity and we’re doing the best we can to work on the maintenance so that power is restored.”
