Korovou town outside Nausori is still without power and water, four days after Cyclone Mick hit Fiji.
“Korovou is the only area that is still without normal water supply and at the moment we’re working on restoring this service especially in much needed places like the Korovou Hospital,” said Water and Sewerage Department spokesman Maika Nagalu.
“The supply of water in the northern division is back to normal while 90 percent of the southern, central and western divisions are receiving normal water supply,” Nagalu told FijiLive.
The greater Suva area is experiencing low water pressure.
Nagalu said teams have been deployed to the affected areas to drive out air from the pipes and is hopeful that water supply would be normal from today.
“There are only a few trucks carting water in Suva as we’re deploying some water trucks to Naboro, Deuba, Navua and Korovou.”
“We find that people tampered with our fire hydrants and air valves and this hinders our work in restoring water supply. We ask our consumers to avoid tampering with fire hydrants, air valves and washouts.”
Meanwhile, Nagalu has advised customers to use water sparingly and boil water when necessary to avoid waterborne diseases.
