Power supply has been lost to the entire Western Division, from Rakiraki to Sigatokaa, as a result of Cyclone Mick.
According to a statement from the Fiji Electricity Authority, most of the Central Division is also without power supply.
The country’s main power station, Wailoa Hydro Power Station, has been shut down due to the rising water level in the Wailoa River.
FEA says that due to the high risk involved as a result of gale force winds and torrential rainfall, its repair and maintenance crews had to be pulled back from the field to ensure their safety.
The crew will only commence repair and power restoration works after the cyclone has passed through.
The members of the public have been reminded to stay away from the many broken power lines lying on the ground.
