Parts of Fiji are experiencing rain and strong winds as the threat of a tropical cyclone striking the islands within the next 24 hours looks likely.
The Nadi weather office upgraded its cyclone alert to a warning today.
It said the tropical depression, which it reported slow moving to the northwest of the country, had developed overnight.
An active trough of low pressure lies to the north of Fiji and is expected to drift southwards onto the group later today.
The country has been advised to expect periods of rain, heavy at times and a few squally thunderstorms going into the new week.
As at 6pm on Sunday, December 13, Tropical Cyclone Mick was located 370km North-North West of Nadi or 420km West North West of Labasa.
In its current path, Tropical Cyclone Mick is projected to pass between Viti Levu and Vanua Levu on Monday afternoon.
Mick is the first South Pacific cyclone of the new summer season.
Fiji's cyclone season is between November and April.
