The Fiji Military has promoted its two senior colonels to the rank of Brigadier General.
Fiji military spokesman Lieutenant Colonel Neumi Leweni confirms that Land Force Commander Colonel Pita Driti and Head of Strategic Headquarters, Colonel Mohammed Aziz maintain their roles following the promotion.
“The role remains the same, all it is is promotion in rank,” he said.
Prime Minister Voreqe Bainimarama, who holds the equivalent naval rank of commodore, maintains his rank and his role of Military Commander.
The other serving Brigadier General in the Fiji Military is Prisons Commissioner Iowane Naivalurua.
Former Military Commander, Prime Minister and 1987 coup leader, Sitiveni Rabuka, holds the more senior rank of Major General.
