Government restrictions on public gathering and the media have been further extended for another month.
Fiji President Ratu Epeli Nailatikau, in a Government Gazette, extended the Public Emergency Regulations 2009 for another 30 days, effective from December 3.
The PER has been continuously extended since it came into force on April 10 this year following the abrogation of the 1997 Constitution.
Government says the PER maintains calm “during these trying times”.
The PER gives the police and the military wide ranging powers to detain anyone they feel is being a security threat and gives the government censorship powers over the media.
