The provision of tuition fee free grants and bus fare subsidies for school children is part of major reforms aimed at restoring hope and faith in Fiji’s education system says Minister, Filipe Bole.
In a statement to mark the end of the school year on Friday, Bole said his ministry understood the difficulties faced by segments of society, which is why major education reforms were implemented this year to restore hope and faith in an education system that caters for all communities.
He said apart from the tuition fee grants and the bus fare subsidy, the ministry would also begin a scheme next year to provide free textbooks to primary schools over the next two years and extend the scheme to secondary schools from 2012.
Bole said the ministry had received letters and telephone calls from parents, schools and organisations to acknowledge the assistance.
