The Fiji Police has significantly increased fees it levies for service offered to the public.
The new Police Clearance and Vetting fees will be effective from January 1, 2010 following a Cabinet decision this week.
The services include local and overseas migration, employment, bailiff and money lending charges, hotel license and liquor licenses.
Normal service fees have been increased 6-fold in some instances whilst a new fee for “Urgent Processing” is also being introduced.
For instance, Normal Immigration and Employment (local) clearance fee, which currently costs $22.50 will be $60 while the clearance fee for overseas will increase from $33.75 to $100.
The “Urgent Processing” fee for these services will be at $150. There is no such fee currently in place.
Fees for Bailiffs, Money Lenders, Hotel License, Liquor License, Immigration Work Permit and Rehabilitation Certificate will increase from $22.50 to $150.
The Police clearance fee for Land Transport Authority (LTA) and Public Service Vehicle (PSV) also increases from $22.50 to $100.
Those who require urgent processing of Employment Vetting services (1 day) will have to pay $100 while urgent processing of “Other Business Vetting” will cost $200.
The Minister for National Security, Ratu Epeli Ganilau says the changes are the result of a review of the fee structure which was weighed against the administration cost used for these services.
The new fees and charges are expected to enhance service delivery within the force, he said.
