The Education Ministry has been allocated a $312.7m budget for 2010, the largest in the Government’s projected expenses announced today.
The operating cost includes allocations for the University of the South Pacific ($37.7m), Fiji Institute of Technology ($40m), University of Fiji ($3.6m) and the State’s National University of Fiji ($6.5m), to be established next year.
The Ministry of Works and Transport has been allocated $141.7m while the Tourism Industry will maintain its $23.5m budget.
The Police has been boosted with a $78.4m allocation while the Military budget drops to $92.5m.
Prime Minister Commodore Voreqe Bainimarama said his Government’s total estimated budget for 2010 is $1.706 billion, compared to $1.175b in its 2009 Budget.
The expected revenue for 2010 is $1.86 billion.
The Government has a capital budget of $325m, which it will invest in water and waste water systems.
