The 2009 Miss South Pacific Pageant (MSPP), being hosted by Fiji for the first time, is showing all the signs of turning into a successful week long affair, with large crowds flocking to Albert Park on the third night of the festival.
“We’ve been successful in our aim to showcase the great diversity of multiculturalism,” MSSP events committee chairman Dhansukh Lal Bhika told FijiLive as arts and dances were showcased last night to feature the Melanesian and Micronesia night.
While most of the night’s entertainment was based on this year’s MSPP theme “Preserving Our Environment the Pacific Way” the highlight of the Melanesian and Micronesia night was the introduction of the 12 contestants to the more than 400 invited guests.
“The presentation by the Greenpeace activist group on climate change and its effect on the Pacific was a very powerful message. It coordinated with the theme of this years’ event and I believe their message was very convincing,” said Bhika.
Expecting turn out to further improve, Bhika said tonight’s Pacific Has Talent show and public judging would capture public interest.
“The event is getting exciting and it will be in at its peak today. We have Pacific beauties, traditional food, contemporary arts and music, sports event every afternoon and enjoyable rides for the kids,” said Bhika.
“The Pacific Has Talent show and the public judging that’s scheduled for the next few days is something to look forward to and I would like to thank the people of Suva for working hard in turning Albert Park into a mini South Pacific village.”
Last night’s contestant introduction and presentation by Greenpeace culminated with dances from the Rafo Dance Group, Shobhna Channel Dance Group, Four Vocalist and the Vou Dance Group.
