Fiji’s largest religious group, the Methodist Church, has recorded its highest number of female graduates from its training institute for clergy.
Church spokesman Reverend James Bhagwan said six women will complete ministerial formation at Davuilevu Theological College tomorrow.
They will be part of a total of 20 student ministers that will graduate with a Diploma in Theology, following 3 years of ministerial formation.
Rev Bhagwan said the graduates will be eligible to serve in circuits (parishes) around the country. The Diploma is accredited by the South Pacific Association of Theological Schools.
Also graduating this year will be 11 ordained Methodist ministers currently serving in churches around the country who which have successfully completed the college's extension programme, the Bachelor of Ministry.
This year will be the inaugural graduation for the B.Min. programme which consists of assignments, intensive workshops and the writing of a thesis over a period of 4 years.
The President of the Methodist Church in Fiji and Rotuma, Rev Ame Tuague will present the Diploma in Theology Certificates and confer the Bachelor of Ministry Degree.
The Methodist Church in Fiji has one of the highest numbers of serving women ministers in the South Pacific.
